Job description

  • Programming and operating computer-controlled machines
  • Operating and maintaining conventional milling, drilling, turning and grinding machines
  • Measuring and controlling with the aid of the latest measuring and testing instruments
  • Set up equipment, operate and monitor production facilities.

  • Graduated from basic primary and secondary eduction, middle level, good performance in physics
  • Manual dexterity as well as precise and careful approach to work
  • Interest in technical topics and mechanics
  • Good spatial awareness
  • Teamwork, reliability

Training duration 3 years


Practical training

The practical basic training takes place in-house.


Basic training (first and second year of the apprenticeship)

Here you will learn the basics of manual production engineering, work on conventional turning, milling, drilling and grinding machines, measuring with various measuring and inspection equipment, assembly technology.


Main training (third year of the apprenticeship)

In the main training, your previously acquired skills and knowledge are deepened and consolidated by application in productive work. The choice of areas of application (competencies) depends on the options in our apprenticeship programme and on your inclinations and abilities. In this area, production mechanics build up at least one competence.


Theoretical training

One day each week, apprentices attend technical school for vocational training.

Subjects:

Technical foundations, mathematics, physics, materials engineering, technical drawing, joining technology, production and mechanical engineering, general education, sports


Inter-company courses

During the first two apprenticeship years, apprentices also attend inter-company courses, in which they acquire basic practical skills and are introduced to industrial methods.

The basic courses in the first two years of the apprenticeship last 28-32 days and comprise mandatory courses and mandatory elective courses.

The supplementary courses are the mandatory elective courses II, which can be taken dependent on the inclinations, interests and abilities of the apprentice.


Completion

After passing the final apprenticeship examination, you will receive a (Swiss) Federal Certificate of Competence with the title Production Mechanic, EFZ.

Career perspectives

Vocational baccalaureate

If you have very good school results, you can also attend the high school equivalency school during or after the initial vocational training. The vocational baccalaureate obtained there entitles access to the technical colleges, depending on the course of study, either without examination or with admission procedures.


Further training

The mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and metalworking industries are varied and global. Basic training as a production mechanic opens up many opportunities both in Switzerland and abroad.
